Loot, Joe Orton’s 1960s black farce, is a tightly plotted play about two bank robbers—Hal and Dennis—who need to hide their loot.
Audition Format: A short comic monologue if you have one and cold readings from the script. British accents are required.

Audition Times & Location: Auditions will be held on November 18 & 19 at 7:30 PM each evening in the Salem Arts Association Gallery on Artists’ Row in Salem. 24 New Derby Street – Unit One. Please arrive by 7:30.

Characters:

MCLEAVY: Older man—60s—respectable, religious, middle class, smitten by Fay, confused and appalled by his son Hal.

FAY: 30s–40s. A nurse with dead husbands in her past. She appears to be devout and upright but will stop at nothing to get rich.

HAL: 20s. A young man of loose sexuality and even looser morals. He desperately needs to hide his loot. Hall is McLeavy’s son and because of his strong Catholic upbringing, he cannot lie.

DENNIS: 20s. He works at a funeral home but wants more. Another young man with loose morals although he wants to marry Fay.

TRUSCOTT: Middle aged. A police detective trying to find the bank robbers. He is absolutely corrupt and makes up the rules as he goes along.

MEADOWS: Any age. A police officer who does as he’s told.

Weekends commencing Oct. 9th, 5PM-9PM, at the Custom House on Derby Street

“The skies they were ashen and sober; The leaves they were crisped and sere — The leaves they were withering and sere; It was night in the lonesome October, Of my most immemorial year.”

The STC brings back the creepiest of the classics, with new adaptations of master works of the macabre by Edgar Allan Poe and Salem’s own Nathaniel Hawthorne, on stage for the seventh annual presentation of Chilling Tales this October.

Presented once again in conjunction with the National Parks Service, this year’s Chilling Talesis not to be missed. In celebration of the 200thanniversary of Poe’s birth, the STC will stage two of his most gruesome, terrifying tales, as well as an additional offering from Hawthorne, at the historic Salem Custom House on Derby Street, directly opposite Derby Wharf.

The tales will be directed by STC Artistic Director John Fogle and feature a cast of professional actors from across the region.

Performances begin every thirty minutes from 5PM to 9PM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from October 9th through October 31st. Tickets are $15 for ages 13 and up and $10 for age 6 to 12. Tickets are now available online at www.salemtheatre.com and those planning on attending are strongly encouraged to book their tickets online in advance; telephone reservations cannot be accepted for this production. Tickets will also be available on show dates beginning at 4:30PM at the STC Box Office tent situated at the Salem Maritime National Historic Site on Derby Street just past Pickering Wharf.

North Shore Art*Throb raves “Get your tickets now! Fantastic!” about the STC’s production. The New York Times calls Martin’s script “laugh-out-loud funny.”

When Louise Maske’s bloomers fall down in public, the quiet, conservative lives of both her and her husband, Theo, are shattered. It doesn’t take long for a line-up of prospective and peculiar boarders to show up at the Maske’s front door. As scandal explodes into spectacle, the characters reflect – and reflect upon – our society’s fascination with fame, our reliance on gender roles, and our enslavement by sex.

The Underpants is the final Main Stage production of the STC’s 6th Season and is directed by Dominick Pangallo (Salem), with stage management by Jason Feran (Beverly). Jessica McGettrick (Salem) is the assistant stage manager and Alicia Greenwood (Beverly) designed the costumes. The cast includes Sarah Carlin (Beverly), Stephen Cooper (Marblehead), John Fogle (Marblehead), Bob Karish (Salem), Craig Owen (Georgetown), Caroline Watson-Felt (Salem), and James Wilcox (Beverly).

Thursday-Sunday, July 30-August 2 Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00pm; Sunday at 2:00pm

Adults $20, Students/Seniors $15 – reservations at www.salemtheatre.com or (978) 790-8546.

Box office opens 30 minutes prior to curtain; reservations not picked up by five minutes to curtain are subject to cancellation. Groups of 15 or more making advance reservations receive $3 off each ticket in their group; group inquiries should be sent by email to gary@salemtheatre.com.

At the First Church, 316 Essex Street, Salem This venue has limited handicapped accessibility. Patrons with disabilities that are unable to walk up or down stairs are kindly asked to call the STC in advance at (978) 790-8546 so that appropriate arrangements may be made for them to be able to access the theater. Show time: 1 hour, 40 minutes, including a 10 minute intermission. The Underpants contains suggestive language and innuendos that may not be appropriate for children.

STC is proud to be a ticketing partner with the following businesses and organizations. Members of the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem Arts Association, Massachusetts Teachers Association, House of the Seven Gables, or the Salem YMCA can show their membership card at the box office to receive a $3 discount off their ticket price. Patrons who dine at Caffe Graziani, Gulu-Gulu, or Capt’s or who stay at the Hawthorne Hotel or Salem Inn the day of the show and show their receipt at the box office will receive a $3 discount off their ticket price. These discounts may not be combined.
