Thanks for a great open mic!
Thanks to everyone who came out to Gulu-Gulu on Thursday night for the largest Shakespeare Open Mic night in the 6 years the STC has been celebrating the Bard’s birthday. Around 100 of us gathered for excellent spirits and food – thanks to Gulu-Gulu – and about forty people offered their favorite sonnets, soliloquies, and scenes for the group. Thanks also to Keri Cahill and Rebel Shakespeare Company for helping spread the word and providing a number of excellent performances on Thursday evening.
The Shakespeare Open Mic celebration is just one of the STC’s two free offerings of live theater every year right in downtown Salem (the second is our Improv on the Bricks coming up in August). That doesn’t mean we still don’t need your support, however. In these tough economic times, nonprofits all over are seeing a drop in donations; the arts especially seem to falling to the bottom of donors’ lists. Please join us in making the STC the exception – make a tax-deductible donation of $25, $50, or $100 today at http://www.salemtheatre.com/support.htm. Thanks!
Open Mic Tonight!
Come give us a taste of your quality, come a passionate speech. Or just come for the quality tastes at Gulu-Gulu.
Word is spreading about tonight’s Shakespeare Open Mic – the STC’s sixth – at 8pm at Gulu-Gulu on Essex Street in Washington. We’re up to about 30 confirmed attendees at the STC Facebook page (what, you’re not a Fan yet? Log on to Facebook and join us!) and I’m sure we’ll get walk-ins. Tip of the cap to Rebel Shakespeare Company who is helping to spread the word and hopefully have a good contingent on hand to show us how it’s done properly! I was never good with iambic pentameter…
And a word to those who have confided in me that they don’t want to perform. You don’t have to! Most guests sit back with a beverage or nosh and enjoy the performances. Just come by and chill. It’s free and it’s the guy’s 445 birthday for crying out loud.
