Last Chance for Chilling Tales

Chilling Tales – the STC’s annual October story-telling onboard Friendship - comes to an end this weekend.  Tickets are still available at http://www.salemtheatre.com/tickets.html and I strongly encourage you to get them in advance online.

I’ve worked the Box Office for the event during each of the three last weekends and it has gotten progressively busier and busier, as would be expected.  By last weekend, shows were selling out an hour or even 90 minutes in advance and it’s probably going to be even longer this final weekend.  That means don’t  wait until 8:55pm to buy tickets for the 9:00pm show.  There won’t be any.

Remember, they are all new shows this year, too – so if you are putting it off because you saw it last year, it’s a new show!

On the chance you’re reading this and making plans to come to Chilling Tales this weekend, here are a few “helpful tips” that will make your visit an even more positive and enjoyable experience:

  • Buy your tickets in advance online.  Because of limitations set by the National Park Service, which operates the Friendship, we are only allowed to sell 15 tickets per show time.  That means shows sell out.  Fast.  On the online ticketing page at www.salemtheatre.com, you can see how few tickets are left for each show time.  Those numbers are going to shrink as the weekend gets closer, too.  If you wait to buy your tickets at the booth, you can be fairly certain that you’re going to have to buy tickets for a show that starts in an hour or more from the purchase time — especially on Saturday, which is usually very busy.
  • Dress warmly. We joke that the event is, literally, chilling tales.  It’s late October.  On a ship.  On the harbor.  While three of the four performances are below deck, where it’s a bit more comfortable, the first is on the deck of the ship – and you have to walk on the wharf to get to the ship.  Dress warmly please.
  • No credit cards, sorry. If you want to pay by card, buy your ticket online in advance.  We can’t take credit cards at the ticket booth on Derby Street, cash only.  And ATMs in Salem tend to empty by Sunday afternoon in the final couple weekends of October, so considering getting cash out early in the weekend or before you arrive.
  • Tell your friends! The STC is a nonprofit community theater group and Chilling Tales is our largest, most important event for raising funds every year.  It’s what sustains us through the rest of the 10 months of our season.  Unlike many other tourism opportunities in Salem in October, this experience is not just a good time, it’s also a good cause for a nonprofit group that’s here year-round.  So, please, if you enjoyed it, tell your friends and help spread the word so we can have a strong finish to our October event.

See you at the Friendship on Derby Wharf this weekend!
